President Donald Trump skipped Joe Biden’s inauguration, but he wasn’t the only one. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) decided to attend a labor union demonstration in South Bronx instead, but her real reason is probably grounded in the latter part of why she was absent. She’s afraid. Yes, you read that right. Ocasio-Cortez is afraid of her Republican colleagues after the January 6 riot that occurred on Capitol Hill (via Fox News):
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., first told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that she had foregone her invitation to President Biden’s inauguration to support a union strike in the South Bronx.
’I’m thrilled for President Biden and Vice President Harris,’ she said, ’I think the festivities were phenomenal.’
Bus slot type. But when pressed, the progressive rabble-rouser admitted that she’d also sat out the swearing-in due to security concerns, adding that she didn’t feel safe around her colleagues at the moment.

’I think we also had very real security concerns,’ Ocasio-Cortez admitted. ’We still don’t yet feel safe around other members of Congress.’
She added that a ’very considerable amount’ of members of Congress do not feel safe around their colleagues, over two weeks since rioters breached the Capitol.
Okay, take a chill pill, lady. So much for the feelings of unity and no viewing each other as enemies. It’s why we all roll our eyes when Biden makes that declaration. Yet, we shouldn’t expect anything less from this New York lefty. She needs to make a fuss, cause a commotion, and offer a statement as if we forgot about her or something. AOC and the squad aren’t going anywhere. We get it. Frankly, at this point, maybe there should be one member of Congress who should be afraid of her—and it’s no Republican. It’s Sen. Chuck Schumer who is up for re-election in 2022. Ocasio-Cortez could primary him. She’s known for shooting inside the ship, she had the fundraising network to fill a war chest, and she has the name recognition. It could get interesting. But back to the inauguration, can we all agree that her remarks are grounded in nothing but pure idiocy, which I know makes up a lot of her remarks in general. The Interesting Development with the Biden Plan to Slash the Trump Tax Cuts Matt VespaOcasio Cortez Election Results 2021 Live

If you feel like it’s been election night for about five years, you’re not alone. The 2020 general election was held on Tuesday, November 3rd, with Democratic nominee Joe Biden winning the presidency, but with Georgia’s senatorial race uncalled, control of the Senate remained uncertain. Most states determine a winner via a plurality system, meaning that the candidate with the most votes wins, but per Ballotpedia, Georgia and Louisiana are the only two states which require a candidate to win not only more votes than other candidates, but a majority (more than 50 percent) of the total votes.Alexandria Ocasio Cortez 2020 Election
Ocasio cortezs district. AOC, The Squad, and many other Democrats, most notably Stacey Abrams, have devoted monumental effort towards securing wins in Georgia for Democratic candidates Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Ocasio-Cortez herself is responsible for raising upwards of $600,000 in contributions (via Politico). There isn’t necessarily a perfect alignment between more progressive members of the Democratic party and the Georgia candidates (neither has voiced support for Medicare for All, for example). However, Jeff Weaver, advisor to Bernie Sanders, explained, ’If we’re going to see any progress on Joe Biden’s pro-worker economic proposals, we need to have a Democratic Senate,’ (via The Hill).AOC is looking forward to a Democratic Senate
As of writing, Raphael Warnock has been elected to the Senate, while Jon Osoff is leading Senator David Perdue, but the race remains uncalled, per The New York Times. Even with two nail-biting victories in Georgia, the Senate would be essentially split, but in cases where the vote is tied, the decision would be made by Democratic Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, giving Democrats hope for their legislative efforts.
As Newsweek reported in December 2019, there were more than 300 bills, the majority of which had bipartisan support, that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell admitted to having no intention of bringing to a vote. Over the past year, the number of bills has only grown and includes COVID-19 relief packages that would provide eviction protections, funding for small businesses, and most notably $2,000 survival payments (via NPR).Alexandria Ocasio Cortez Race Results
With a Senate majority for Democrats, the way would be clear for the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House to work together under a new administration. In Wednesday’s celebration tweet, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked her followers, ’Who’s ready to PUSH?’ followed by a list of policy goals including retroactive COVID-19 relief, student loan cancellation, healthcare, and climate justice. If last night’s election is proof of anything, it’s that grassroots organizing and voter engagement can make a huge impact on the course of the country, and AOC is ready to get to work.
